Spring
March usually starts fairly cool and can produce some very cold Northerly winds, however by April the weather has definitely started to warm up, although we can still experience some often heavy and prolonged periods of rain. By May the weather has really warmed up with lots of sunshine yet still very comfortable.
As you would expect with rain and temperature increase the Ebro runs fairly high and carries a
lot of sediment (colour) which as a result makes spotting the Catfish a far easier task as they
like to stay out of the strong currents and are found close to the margins and also in the
slack water and eddys. Due to the water temperature rising in May boat/pellet fishing is easier as the weed growth and other cover is at its lowest. The river is still usually running fairly deep in May as the snowmelt begins to fill the tributaries in the mountains which feed the Ebro.
Start of the season is dependant on the type of Winter we have had. As a rule a milder Winter
produces better early season fishing. There are some really large 100 pound plus females full
of eggs about at this time too. April see's the start of the biggest catches although early May
is when the Catfish spawn so it can be hit and miss, but soon as the spawning is finished...Bang
into the feeding frenzy! You could expect multiple catches per day.
Summer
June and the temperatures are climbing for the next two months it will regularly exceed 30c although there is usually a nice breeze to keep things comfortable. We do occasionally see some of the classic and dramatic evening thunder storms (remember... the rain in Spain falls mainly...well at night as it goes!) which really does clear the air!
The River Ebro has found its lower summer level and the water clarity increases. As water temperature rises this also helps the weed and vegetation to grow due to increased photosynthesis.
June, July and August see really good and consistent fishing. As the water temperature rises the Catfish have an increased metabolism and as a result feed more. The fishing is best during the (early) Mornings and Evenings. These times really do produce and we fish to the conditions so you can enjoy a nice relaxing Siesta (ice cold beer too!) in the shade of the Villa at the hottest part of the day, going back for some cracking evening sport.

Autumn
September sees the weather starting to cool down a bit and continues to do so throughout October and November. The winds seem to increase but the blue skies are still there almost every day. All in all, very pleasant.
The river is still running at its summer depth which is fairly low. The weed growth has stopped now with the water temperature really only starting to fall noticeably by November.
As you would expect by the end of October the fishing starts to calm down from the high action of the Summer and early Autumn months but we still achieve averages of 2 to 3 fish per day which can’t be bad! Also we’re still seeing and more to the point catching a good number of 100lbs plus Catfish and large Carp.

Winter
December, January and February is winter wherever you go in the northern hemisphere. We start to experience really cold northerly winds coming off the Pyrenees mountains. It does, as you would expect rain fairly heavily too, but we still have some sunny days and can see temperatures in the late teens.
The river starts to take on a bit more colour and swell slightly although doesn’t peak until the spring with the snow melt and heavy rains. Remaining cool with minimal weed cover.
Although Catfish can still be caught at this time of the year, with water temperatures at it’s lowest what we really start to target at this time of year are the large wild Carp the Ebro produces – top sport!
The above information is a guide only. Fishing conditions vary according to the weather.
